Unable to connect to Moto E Mobile internet from PC through USB tethering - Fix

Problem in accessing Moto E Mobile internet in Desktop PC through USB tethering

Normal procedure in connecting to Mobile internet from a desktop Personal computer is by connecting the USB cable from mobile phones usb socket to PC's USB port and enabling the USB tethering feature of your phone. Once the USB is detected by the PC, it automatically installs the driver and get connect to mobile internet.

Some times even after connecting the mobile to PC using USB and enabling the USB tethering, you may not be able to access the internet of PC. It is due to failure in installation of USB drivers and softwares which facilitates the connection.


In the case of Moto E, do the following steps to connect your PC to mobile's internet via USB cable.

  • Step1: Connect the USB cable to your phone and to an available USB port on your computer.
  • Step2: Taken Moto E's Setting >> Wireless & Networks >> Data usage More... >> Tethering & mobile hotspot >> USB tethering (please note: "USB tethering" will be highlighted only if a USB cable is connected). Check the USb tethering option.
  • Step3: If the USB driver & software for Moto E is available then PC will be try to install it and you will be able to access the internet or PC.
  • Step4: If still you cannot access the internet, it means the driver software is not available in your PC, so you must download it from internet.
  • Step5: Open the web browser in your mobile. visit the Motorola's Software & Drivers - Moto E customer help page and download the USB driver software from Motorola Device Manager section. Motorola Device Manager contains USB drivers and software to connect your Motorola phone or tablet to your computer using a USB cable. You can download the driver by clicking Moto E USB tethering driver software.
  • Step6: Now the driver software is downloaded into your phone. Now uncheck the USB tethering option on you phone, Now the phone will change to a mass storage device mode. Copy the Moto E USB tethering Driver software from your mobile to a location in your PC and install it.
  • Step7: After installation, reconnect your USB cable between Moto E mobile and your PC.
  • Step8: Repeat Step2 to activate USB tethering.
  • Step9: Now your PC will get connected to internet and your Moto E phone will act as a modem.
