Thumboormozhi Check Dam is an irrigation dam built across the Chalakudy river to facilitate irrigation of nearby area. The dam splits a portion of the water from the river into two canals called ‘Edathukara canal’ (left side canal) and Valathukara canal (right side canal). This hot spot is at the downstream of the well known Athirapally waterfalls.
A 210-metre long hanging bridge with breadth of 1.5 metre was inaugrated on April 2015 to implore tourism opportunities in this area. The bridge connects Thumboormuzhi with eco-village Ezhattumukham. Thumboormuzhi butterfly garden is another attaction of this place. The park is on the banks of the Chalakkudy river. About 148 species of Butterflies can be seen in the park. It is a natural habitat of butterflies.
You can also enjoy spending time in chilling waters at the Ezhattumukham side of the bridge. You should pay separate entry fees for these two tourist spots.
You can reach Thumboormozhi either by road, rail or air. The park is 55kms from Thrissur city. If you plan a weekend hang-out, you can consider a combo of Thumboormozhi Check Dam & garden and Ezhattumukham eco-village and Athirapally Waterfalls.
