Telemarketers gather phone numbers from various sources  and calls or sends text messages to promote their products or services. Sometimes it may be irritant to people.

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India ( TRAI) has set up an option for mobile or land line customers to stop or block such unwanted calls or sms. Options are given below.




 Dial 1909 from your mobile and follow the instructions to register your mobile number in "Fully Blocked Category" or "Partial blocking category"

OR

 SMS "START 0" from your mobile to 1909 for registering in Fully Blocked Category.


For partial blocking, send SMS like given below:

  • SMS "START 1" to 1909 for blocking calls or SMS related to Banking/Insurance/Financial Products/Credit Cards.
  • SMS "START 2" to 1909 for blocking calls or SMS related to Real Estate.
  • SMS "START 3" to 1909 for blocking calls or SMS related to Education.
  • SMS "START 4" to 1909 for blocking calls or SMS related to Health care.
  • SMS "START 5" to 1909 for blocking calls or SMS related to Consumer goods and automobiles.
  • SMS "START 6" to 1909 for blocking calls or SMS related to Entertainment / Communication / Broadcasting/ IT.
  • SMS "START 7" to 1909 for blocking calls or SMS related to Tourism.

if you want to block multiple categories  you can use like this

SMS "START 2,4" to 1909 for blocking calls or SMS related to Real Estate and Health care.


Please note: Calls and messages to 1909 is completely toll free and It takes a minimum of 7 days to process your DND request

How to unblock the commercial calls or sms to your phone?
For this Call at 1909 and follow the instructions or you can SMS "STOP YOUR_OPTION_NUMBER" to 1909. Replace YOUR_OPTION_NUMBER with preference number

For unblocking multiple categories  follow this example
SMS "STOP 3,7" to 1909 for unblocking calls or SMS related to Education and Tourism.

For completely stoping DND facility SMS STOP to 1909.   This will allow Telemarketers to call / SMS you.
